ZHANARA
MADIMOVA:
The Magic of Silk
and the Power Within
Interview by Anna Grigoryeva
for Emirates Fashion Week Magazine

For Zhanara Madimova, fashion is more than beauty — it is energy, a dialogue between East and West, a way to awaken a woman’s inner light. Her brand, Peri Kimono, is not about trends. It is about transformation — about remembering who you truly are.

Fashion Is Not Self-Expression — It's Vibration

– Zhanara, what does fashion mean to you today — self-expression, art, or business?
– “For me, fashion reflects everything that happens — or will soon happen — in the world,” says Zhanara Madimova. “It’s a silent language that translates what words cannot. Fashion is energy — a way to transmit emotion, reflect the inner world, even a certain vibration. Business is only the form through which this energy reaches people. The essence is always art — the art of life.”

My Muse Is a Woman Standing in the Wind — Between East and West

– How does a new collection begin for you — with an idea, fabric, or mood?
– “Always with mood,” smiles Zhanara. “I never create from lack or apathy. My muse is a woman standing in the wind between East and West, in a refined oriental palace — mysterious, magnetic, and free. Sometimes inspiration comes from the touch of silk, a color, or a print. I don’t design rationally — I live each collection as a stage of my inner journey.”

Peri Kimono Is Not a Garment — It's a Return to Oneself

– What emotions do you want a woman to feel when she wears your designs?
– “I want her to feel her greatness, her wholeness, her beauty. To return to harmony, to that soft inner strength,” says Zhanara. “Peri…”

Kimono protects a woman’s energy — it keeps her power within, guarding it from the eyes of the world. When she wears it, she remembers that she is magic itself — connected to wind, water, fire, and air. She realizes she can shape her reality through love and light.”

Trends Fade. Energy Is Eternal.

– How do you balance trends with your own timeless style?
– “I don’t chase trends because fashion changes, but energy doesn’t,” Zhanara says. “Peri Kimono is not about seasons — it’s about states of being. Kimonos were relevant centuries ago, and”

they still are. Balance doesn’t come from trying to fit in, but from honesty — listening to your true desires. Otherwise, you betray your essence, and that means betraying your style.”

Every Kimono Is an Armor of Light

– Does Peri Kimono have its own signature DNA?
– “Yes — the closed silhouette, flowing fabrics, deep hues, sacred prints, and a sense of protection,” explains Zhanara Madimova. “Each kimono feels like the robe of a sorceress — graceful, powerful, and serene. It blends Eastern mysticism with modern refinement. You can rec…”

Recognize it not by cut, but by feeling. When you wear it, it’s like being embraced by your own energy.”

Every Collection Is a Chapter of a Silk Fairytale

– Who or what inspires you to create?
– “The woman herself — in all her forms,” says Zhanara. “I’m inspired by ancient legends, dreams, the silence of the desert, the scent of the sea. By the energy of palaces and places where history still breathes. My collections are like chapters of an Eastern fairytale — only told through silk.”
