Russia – Heritage
MEETS FASHION
Interview by Emirates Fashion Week Magazine

From her Moscow atelier to Emirates Fashion Week, designer Elena Romanova redefines the essence of modern femininity through heritage, craftsmanship, and emotion. Her creations — intricate gowns, divine crowns, and hand-crafted adornments — embody the soul of Russian culture, interpreted through the lens of contemporary couture.

Each piece in the Elena Romanova collection carries a story. A story of lineage and artistry, of memory and light. Working closely with Russian artisans of traditional crafts, Elena brings ancestral techniques into the world of high fashion — transforming folklore into wearable art.

– Your crowns look like wearable architecture. Where does the inspiration come from?
– Every crown I create is a dialogue between light and soul. I’m inspired by sacred geometry, royal symbolism, and the mystery of the feminine spirit. Each design carries echoes of Russian culture — the grandeur of old icons, the sparkle of winter palaces, the poetry of Slavic legends.

– There’s a strong sense of mythology and emotion in your work — even your gowns seem to tell personal stories

– Yes, every dress is a part of my inner world. My collections are woven from my own experiences, emotions, and moments of transformation. I translate them into fabric, embroidery, and form. That’s why my dresses always feel alive — they carry the energy of a lived story.

– Your designs highlight structure as much as ornament. Tell us about your signature silhouettes.
– The foundation of my gowns is the author’s sculpting corset. It’s a piece of technical artistry that allows every dress to sit perfectly on any body shape — from size 38 to 58. The structure creates harmony, and the details give it soul.

– How do you balance opulence and modernity in such ornate designs?
– Through intention. Every crystal, every line must have meaning. True luxury isn’t about excess — it’s about essence. I want each piece to feel timeless, to breathe. My crowns, for instance, are handcrafted with Swarovski crystals, metallic filigree, and fine glass beads — symbols of precision and heritage coexisting in one form.
